My Reflection

The lecturer was explained about the Interactive White Board. We have been introduced to the new device that can be used as advanced teaching method that called "Smart Whiteboard". At first, we were told to install the smartboard software so that we can connect the laptop to the interactive white board. The SMART Board is a large whiteboard that uses touch technology for detecting user input that are equivalent to normal PC input devices, such as mice or keyboards. A projector is used to display a computer's video output onto the whiteboard, which then acts as a huge touchscreen. The SMART Board usually comes with 4 digital writing utensils that use digital ink replacing the traditional whiteboard markers. The digital ink works by using an active digitizer that controls the PC input information for writing capabilities such as drawing or handwriting. There are also buttons that launch a popup keyboard and a right-mouse-click menu for more input options. The interactive whiteboard is usually mounted on a wall or a floor stand and is used in face-to-face or virtual settings in education, business and government.

Note that interactive whiteboard are different from tablet computing which are usually use for education or information request boardrooms meeting for presentation, classrooms (assisting / enhancing) learning styles rather than tablet which are more common for display and personal assisted technologies such as graphic tablet, wallpaper, transportation time schedules. The SMART Board interactive whiteboard operates as part of a system that comprises the interactive whiteboard, a computer and a projector. The components are connected wirelessly, or via USB or serial cables. A projector connected to the computer projects the computer desktop image onto the interactive whiteboard. The interactive whiteboard accepts touch input from a finger, pen, and solid objects.

Second lecture is about E-Portfolio. This lecture are given by Mr. Junaidi of how to build up E-PORTFOLIO. Each student in UPSI must have one E-Portfolio. In this E-Portfolio, all assignment are compile together until our last semester. The important menu that must have in our E-Portfolio are about my self which are consist of my resume, my reflection and my teaching philosophy, professional development plan, assignment, lesson plan, gallery, reflection and resources. For the next lecture,Mr. Junaidi have give lecture about how to use picasa and cam studio. In picasa lesson, we can edit our picture to become more perfect and in cam studio lesson, it can video-record all screen and audio activity on your computer and create an AVI video file which is a common video format.

In our lecture, we have learn about data logger, we have ask to construct one experiment from form 4 chapter. the chapter that our group got is population ecology. Our experiment is to study about population growth of bacteria. In this experiment we use to sensors which are temperature sensor and CO2 sensor to identify the population growth of bacteria in coconut milk after 24 hours. The advantages in using data logger are the result are more accurate, save time in doing experiments, more experiments can be done using this data logger, experiment can be done repeatedly, enhanced computer literacy, better understanding of science concepts and opportunities for interdisciplinary projects.

We also learned about spreadsheet. A spreadsheet is a computer application that simulates a paper worksheet. It displays multiple cells that together make up a grid consisting of rows and columns, each cell containing either alphanumeric text or numeric values. A spreadsheet cell may alternatively contain a formula that defines how the contents of that cell is to be calculated from the contents of any other cell (or combination of cells) each time any cell is updated. Spreadsheets are frequently used for financial information because of their ability to re-calculate the entire sheet automatically after a change to a single cell is made.

For this lecture, Prof. Dr. Sopia explained to us what is simulation and modeling. Simulation is the exploration of existing models. ICT can uniquely illustrate concepts with the use of high quality multi media simulation enabling students to interact, reflect and develop their knowledge and understanding.
Modeling is the expression of one's ideas by constructing one own model. Modeling conjures up many different pictures in science teaching and learning. Modeling using ICT enables students to explore the effects of changing data and relationships of physical systems, thus helping students to understand the phenomena involved. In our learning of simulation and modeling, we have take one simulation from chapter enzyme which are form 4 topic and for modeling we have take modeling for diffusion process.
